2 tablespoons confectioners sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Mardi Gras Icing (see recipe below)

1. Preheat oven 350°F. Coat 10-inch round pizza pan with nonstick cooking spray.
2. Separate crescent rolls at perforations, into 16 slices. Place slices around prepared pan with points in center. About halfway down from points, press seams together.

4. In another small bowl, combine butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon with fork until crumbly. Sprinkle over cream cheese. Fold dough points over filling and then fold bottom of triangle over points forming a circular roll like a king cake.
5. Bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool slightly and drizzle with colored Mardi Gras Icing.

2. In first bowl, add a few drops of yellow food coloring and in second bowl, add a few drops of green food coloring. In third bowl, add equal amounts of drops of red and blue food coloring (to create purple). Drizzle over baked cake.

  1. Holly, after many failed attempts at making a King Cake (yeast hates me). I happened upon your easy recipe using Crescent Rolls. It was so easy (I watched your video a couple of times). My husband’s b’day was the day after Mardi Gras so I made it for his birthday. Everyone loved it! We live in Tennessee now but born and raised in N.O.L.A. The store bought king cakes are awful here.(kind of like trying to buy New Orleans ‘french bread’ anywhere but New Orleans) Thank you so much for sharing, I will definitely be making this again! I did get carried away with the decorations I admit…Gail

  2. Thanks Kourtney for sharing this note with me about my easy king cake recipe:
I am 24 years old and was recently diagnosed with pre type 2 diabetes in the fall. As soon as King Cake season came around it made me depressed to go to the stores and see the King Cakes covered in sugar and filled with overly sweetened fillings that I shouldn’t be eating. I was SO happy to see your lower fat, lower sugar recipe on your blog for a more diabetic king cake (the crescent roll one) I made it tonight and it was AMAZING! It was easy to make and delicious. You are my new hero! Thank you so much!   Kourtney Davison

  3. I made this tonight for our Bible Study before Fat Tuesday. (I also made your gumbo which was so yummy!) It was so easy and delicious! Everyone loved it. I generally hate to bake…this was a big success for me. I live in CA…it’s hard to find King Cakes here and when you do, they aren’t very good.

    Thank you!

  4. Hi Ann, LOVE this story and so glad I could give you a taste of Louisiana in California. All my recipes are easy and glad you are enjoying them. Happy Mardi Gras and thanks for commenting and hope you keep on cooking.
